Description:

Boneheel 0.5 mcg Tablets contain Alfacalcidol (1α-hydroxycholecalciferol), a synthetic vitamin D analogue used to manage hypocalcemia, secondary hyperparathyroidism, osteodystrophy, and bone mineralization disorders associated with chronic kidney disease, rickets, osteomalacia, and osteoporosis ([turn0search1]turn0search12]).

Key Features:

  • Enhances intestinal calcium and phosphate absorption, promotes bone mineralization

  • Bypasses kidney activation—effective even in renal impairment

  • Helps reduce parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels in hypocalcemia

  • Well-established efficacy in managing bone and mineral disorders

  • More predictable effects compared to native vitamin D3 ([turn0search1]turn0search4])

Dosage & Administration:

  • Adults and adolescents (>20 kg): 0.5 mcg once daily, ideally after breakfast

  • Elderly patients: Often maintained at 0.5 mcg daily; some may require up to 1 mcg/day based on biochemical response ([turn0search4]turn0search11])

  • Dose adjustments may be required based on serum calcium, phosphate, and PTH levels, typically monitored every 1–4 weeks initially

Precautions:

  • Contraindicated in hypercalcemia or history of vitamin D toxicity

  • Caution in renal impairment, cardiac disease, or disorders of calcium metabolism

  • May cause headache, nausea, hypercalciuria, hypercalcemia, or muscle weakness

  • Avoid co-administration with thiazide diuretics or digitalis due to risk of calcium-related arrhythmias ([turn0search4]turn0search5])

  • Requires periodic monitoring of serum electrolytes and renal function

Storage:

  • Store below 25 °C in a dry, cool place

  • Protect from light and moisture
