Description:

Dezatax 1 g Injection contains Cefotaxime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that provides broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is indicated for severe infections including pneumonia, urinary tract infection, sepsis, skin and soft tissue infections, meningitis, and intra-abdominal infections. Cefotaxime acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, resulting in bactericidal activity.

Key Features:

  • High-dose 1 g formulation ensures robust plasma levels for severe infections.

  • Broad-spectrum efficacy, including common nosocomial and community pathogens.

  • Administered via IV or IM routes in clinical and hospital settings.

  • Third-generation cephalosporin resistant to many β-lactamases.

  • Convenient single-use vial design for immediate reconstitution.

Dosage & Administration:

  • Adults (mild to moderate infections): 1 g every 6–8 hours IV/IM.

  • Adults (severe infections): Up to 2 g every 6–8 hours, based on clinical evaluation.

  • Pediatrics: 50–150 mg/kg per dose every 6–8 hours, as per physician’s guidance.

  • Administer via slow IV injection (3–5 minutes), IV infusion, or deep IM injection post-reconstitution.

  • Adjust dosage for patients with renal impairment.

Precautions:

  • Contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or β‑lactam antibiotics.

  • Renal function monitoring is recommended—dose adjustment may be necessary in renal insufficiency.

  • Rare neurotoxic effects (e.g., seizures) can occur, particularly in renally impaired or elderly patients.

  • Use during pregnancy or lactation only if the potential benefit outweighs risk.

  • Be alert for superinfections, including Clostridioides difficile–associated diarrhea, during prolonged therapy.

Storage:

  • Store between 15 °C and 25 °C in a dry, dark place.

  • Protect from direct sunlight and moisture.

  • Use reconstituted solution immediately or follow the manufacturer’s stability guidelines.

  • Keep out of reach of children.
