Description:

Dezatax 500 mg Injection contains Cefotaxime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is indicated for treatment and prophylaxis in severe infections such as pneumonia, urinary tract infections, septicemia, skin and soft tissue infections, meningitis, and intra-abdominal infections. Cefotaxime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, resulting in rapid bactericidal activity.

Key Features:

  • Broad-spectrum bactericidal action against pathogens including E. coli, Streptococcus spp., Haemophilus influenzae, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae

  • Elevated dosing for serious infections ensures therapeutic plasma levels

  • Administered via IV or IM in hospital and ambulatory care settings

  • Third-generation cephalosporin with enhanced β-lactamase resistance

  • Packaged in single-dose vials for convenient on-demand reconstitution

Dosage & Administration:

  • Adults (mild to moderate infections): 500 mg every 6–8 hours IV/IM

  • Adults (severe infections, e.g., meningitis or sepsis): Up to 2 g every 6–8 hours, depending on clinical severity

  • Pediatrics: 50–100 mg/kg per dose every 6–8 hours as prescribed

  • Administer via slow IV injection (3–5 minutes) or infusion, or deep IM injection after reconstitution

  • Adjust dosage in cases of renal impairment

Precautions:

  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or beta-lactams

  • Monitor renal function; adjust dosage in renal insufficiency

  • Rare risk of neurotoxicity (e.g., encephalopathy, seizures), especially in renally impaired or elderly patients

  • Use cautiously during pregnancy and lactation—prescribe only if clinically justified

  • Prolonged use may lead to superinfections, including Clostridioides difficile–associated diarrhea

  • Shield from moisture and direct sunlight

  • Use reconstituted solution immediately or within the stability time specified by the manufacturer
